The deposit invoice

A deposit invoice lets you get paid part of the amount before the job is finished. The balance comes later, on the final invoice.

Create the invoice and mark it as a deposit rather than a final invoice.

At the end of the job, issue the final invoice deducting the deposit already paid. The project then shows “Final invoice to prepare”.

This is the quirk to remember: status changes on a deposit invoice have no effect on the project status.

A paid deposit does not move the project to done, and does not take it out of “Invoices to prepare”. It is the final invoice that drives progress.

The deposit still follows its own invoice statuses, which you can consult like any other invoice.
